Kelly’s Blog: Last Event of the Summer

We’ve been in winter-mode for months now but when we close the Octoberfest gates, we officially flip the WINTER switch!  Are you feeling those little goosebumps?  Yeah, me too.

But before we all start drooling over the first fan gun start up, we have a big fat German-inspired weekend to get our arms around.  You will need both arms to take in everything we have planned.  I just attended our final Octoberfest (Oct 11 & 12) planning meeting so here’s the inside scoop.

TODAY:

1)  Book your lodging and Octoberfest package

2)  Don’t need lodging?  Book your Octoberfest event tickets and save substantial cash! $10 per person is worth booking in advance, IMHO.

3)  Start planning your costume.  Here’s some inspiration.

I call this one St Pauli style

I can picture these guys at the Mount Snow event because camaraderie is prevalent

My personal favorite – the chicken head.

Stuff you should know about the Mount Snow Octoberfest.

*FREE Harvest Craft Show takes place in the base lodge with over 40 crafters.  There are some new ones this year like VT Bee Balm.  Craft Show is 10 – 5 daily, Sat and Sun.

*Octoberfest is Sat and Sun, 11 – 5 pm.

*Starting tomorrow, Oct 4, the Bluebird Express runs daily 10 – 5pm, right thru Monday, October 13.  Lift Schedule

*Octoberfest is family-friendly.  In fact, we have an entire kid zone so your kinders will have as much fun as you.

*Adults, must have valid ID (no matter how old you think you look) if you would like to taste the large array of beers that we will have on tap.

*Speaking of beer, your first one is on the house!  Your event registration includes a 16 oz stein of your favorite brew.  After that, beer tokens are $5 each.

*30 breweries and 60 flavors of beers should whet your whistle.

THE GULP AND GALLOP on SAT

I would highly recommend that you start off your weekend with a 5k, drinking event!  Yup, it is 4 times around the course and on each lap we revive you with a beer (or water if you are pacing yourself for a full day!)  The entry fee is $15.  You can purchase online or starting at 9 am at the Clocktower ticket window.  The first 50 participants to register at the start/finish line (registration near the Bluebird opens at 9:30 am) get a t-shirt.  Race starts at 10 am.

THE KOOL AID 1k

For kids!  Starts at 2 pm each day.  Only 1 lap and kids are rewarded with a big, happy, ear-to-ear Kool Aid smile!  FREE

Other stuff you won’t want to miss:

*We are hosting another beer pairing dinner at the 1900 Burger   I finally attended one of these in August.  Fantastic experience!

*Cupola Tent Sale

*Backside opens for the season!  Can’t wait to see all the new gear.  I think I can squeeze one more jacket in my closet!

*The Bullwheel, at the summit, is open all weekend with a bluegrass band on Sat and Sun.

*Summit Info Tours offered Sat and Sun 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm

*The Canyon Express is open for our last weekend of mountain biking.

Photo taken today, Oct 3. I can’t guarantee this view on Columbus Weekend but as we like to say, “everyday is a Bluebird Day at Mount Snow”
